Captcha
Some stores show a captcha during checkout. You set up captcha handling once in Settings › Captcha, and every task uses it. Tasks don’t have their own captcha setting.
| Captcha | Who solves it |
|---|---|
| hCaptcha | The bot’s own hCaptcha AI while it’s on. Otherwise your captcha services. |
| Everything else | Your captcha services |
Only John Lewis, Smyths and Generic Shopify meet captchas. Captchas by store lists which kinds each one needs.
hCaptcha AI
Section titled “hCaptcha AI”hCaptcha AI solves hCaptcha in the bot’s own browser, so you don’t pay a service for it.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| hCaptcha AI | Turns the AI on or off. |
| Attempts | How many goes the AI gets at one captcha, from 1 to 6. It starts at 3. Each failed go loads a fresh puzzle, so more attempts means a slower checkout. |
| When it gives up | Where the captcha goes after the last attempt fails. See below. |
Two kinds of hCaptcha
Section titled “Two kinds of hCaptcha”- Picture puzzles on Generic Shopify, at payment or on the store’s checkpoint page. The AI ticks the box and picks the right pictures in the Captcha solver window, where you can watch it or take over. Attempts and When it gives up apply to these.
- Stripe’s card check on John Lewis and Smyths. There’s no puzzle. The bot’s browser loads Stripe’s check and passes it without a click, so Attempts and When it gives up don’t apply and there’s nothing for you to solve. If the check fails, the task stops with an error.
When it gives up
Section titled “When it gives up”The AI keeps going until its attempts run out. When it gives up then decides where the puzzle goes. Pick a choice to see what happens.
The AI works the puzzle in its own tab of the solver window.A wrong answer loads a fresh puzzle. The AI keeps going until its attempts run out.Out of attempts. The tab closes and the task stops.Out of attempts. The tab closes and the task stops.Out of attempts. The tab closes and the task stops.

- Stop the task. The tab closes and the task stops with “Built-in AI did not solve the captcha”. This is the default.
- Let me solve it. The puzzle stays in its tab, marked with an orange !. The task waits for you as long as it takes, and carries on once you’ve solved it.
- Send to captcha services. The tab closes and the puzzle goes down your list of services. If none solves it within 120 seconds, the task stops.
With the AI off
Section titled “With the AI off”Shopify puzzles go straight to your captcha services, and John Lewis and Smyths send Stripe’s check there too. When it gives up does nothing while the AI is off.
You then need at least one service with hCaptcha ticked. Without one, Shopify tasks stop when they meet a puzzle, and John Lewis and Smyths tasks stop before they add anything to the basket.
Captcha services
Section titled “Captcha services”A captcha service is a paid website that solves captchas for you. The bot works with 2Captcha (recommended) and CapSolver. Each solves different kinds of captcha:
| Captcha | 2Captcha | CapSolver |
|---|---|---|
| hCaptcha | ✓ | |
| reCAPTCHA v2 | ✓ | ✓ |
| GeeTest | ✓ | ✓ |
| Image | ✓ | ✓ |
| BotDeflector | ✓ |
Add a service
Section titled “Add a service”-
Make an account with the service and add some credit. Copy your API key from their dashboard.
-
Go to Settings › Captcha and click New provider.
-
Pick 2Captcha or CapSolver.
-
Under Solves, tick the kinds of captcha this service should take. Everything it supports starts ticked. Untick a type to keep it off this service.
-
Set Max concurrent solves, the most captchas it works on at once. It starts at 10.
-
Give it a Name, such as “Main solver”, and paste the API key.
API keys are stored on your PC only. Each service shows its balance. Click Refresh balance on one, or Refresh all balances at the top, to update it.
Which service gets a captcha
Section titled “Which service gets a captcha”The list order matters. When a task meets a captcha, the bot goes down your list and uses the first service that:
- has that kind of captcha ticked, and
- isn’t already working on its Max concurrent solves.
hCaptchaCaptcha -> solving with Main solver
- 12CMain solver2CaptchahCaptchareCAPTCHA v2GeeTestImage
- 2CSBackupCapSolverreCAPTCHA v2GeeTestImageBotDeflector
Only Main solver has hCaptcha ticked.
reCAPTCHA v2Captcha -> solving with Backup
- 12CMain solverEvery slot busyhCaptchareCAPTCHA v2GeeTestImage
- 2CSBackupCapSolverreCAPTCHA v2GeeTestImageBotDeflector
Main solver is first, but all its slots are busy, so Backup takes it.
BotDeflectorCaptcha -> solving with Backup
- 12CMain solver2CaptchahCaptchareCAPTCHA v2GeeTestImage
- 2CSBackupCapSolverreCAPTCHA v2GeeTestImageBotDeflector
Only Backup has BotDeflector ticked.
Use Move up and Move down to set the order. Put the service you’d rather pay first at the top.
- Every service busy: the task waits for a free slot. Its status reads
Captcha -> waiting for a free solver. - A service fails: the bot tries the next service in the list that has the type ticked. The status shows which one failed and why.
- No service has the type ticked: the task stops and tells you which box to tick, for example “No captcha service has reCAPTCHA v2 ticked.”
The Captcha solver window
Section titled “The Captcha solver window”The window opens by itself when a Shopify task meets a puzzle, and it stays on top of your other windows. To open it yourself, click Captcha solver on the Tasks page or Open solver in Settings › Captcha.
Each puzzle gets its own tab, named after the product. Hover a tab to see its store and task. The window switches to a new tab as it opens, unless the puzzle on screen is yours to solve.
The switch at the top chooses who solves the open tab:
- AI lets hCaptcha AI work on it. Switch back to AI after taking over and it starts again on a fresh puzzle, with a full set of attempts.
- You hands it to you. Clicking the puzzle while the AI works does the same. The tab reads “Stopping the AI” until the AI lets go, then the puzzle is yours with no time limit.
An orange ! on a tab means “The AI could not solve this one. It is waiting for you.” Solve it and the task carries on.
Click a tab’s × to stop that captcha. The task stops too, unless When it gives up is set to Send to captcha services, which sends the puzzle to your services instead.
Stripe’s card check also gets a tab while the window is open. There’s nothing to click in it.
Closing the window doesn’t stop anything. A puzzle waiting for you keeps waiting, so open the window again from the Tasks page.
